Cloud Expo 2012 Follow-up

Author: John

Arriving in New York was a surreal feeling for me. I have traveled the world following my wife who is in the US military. We even lived in Japan for 3 years. However, the feeling of being in New York on my first “business” trip was something that I had never experienced. I barely slept the first night thinking about my presentation the next day. As I left for my mile and a half walk to the Javits Center where I would be presenting in a few hours I began to reflect on the last year.

We moved to San Antonio about a year ago. Our Realtor sent me an add cut out of a newspaper for Rackerpalooza. It was a hiring expo of sorts for Rackspace and she thought it would be a good place for me to apply. I had heard of Rackspace but didn’t really know much about. I began to research a little and the “culture” of Rackspace was definitely appealing. I decided that I had nothing to lose so I applied.

After 3 phone screenings and a 4 hour in person interview I was hired! I started as a Cloud Sites support tech on 2nd shift. I immediately knew that I had found the place for me.

Now fast forward… I am half way to the Javits Center when I get a text from one of my Rackspace co-workers. He just wanted to tell me good luck and to reassure me that I would do great. I was immediately reminded of what makes Rackspace such a great place to work. Not only do I have a great job, but I have gained an entire work family.

Finally, the presentation came and it went great. I was pleasantly surprised and the number of questions from the crowd. It was fun to talk about a product and a company that I feel so passionately about. The forty five minutes came and went and before I knew it I was done.

For me Rackspace is truly a special place and I am proud to call myself a Racker!
